A quick visit was paid to the lovely town of Altenahr, before walking up into the hills and following the first part of the Rotwein-wanderweg (Red wine trail). This town is not actually on the Moselle itself, but nestles in amongst a number of hills and valleys. These can only truly be appreciated by getting up higher, the views from the trail being superb.

We only walked a few kilometres, from Altenahr to Rech, passing the town of Mayschoss on the way. The pictures taken on this stretch can be found in the next subgallery.
