Flattening Out the Learning Curve

Well I think I made some progress today at the butterfly center. I made a number of changes to my technique. First of all, I had more ambient light in the conservatory over previous shoots. More light really helps with getting a sharp focus. Second I used the Lumiquest Bouncer on the 550EX. Also I used f11 and 1/60 with ISO 100. I was up and down twiddling with the FEC on the 550EX, pushing the histograms further to the right. Finally, in post-processing, I used Paul's sharpening technique that I really like. I got the sharpness that I like without the obvious sharpening artifacts. The super close-ups have a lot of noise in the background, but these are very close to 100% crops. Just wanted to show off the level of detail. Comments and suggestions welcome. ~~~ jim
