Note: this eastern "race" was recently split from the southwest US race, and so there are now two species of whip-poor-will in the US: Eastern and Mexican Whip-poor-wills.

Whip-poor-wills were wonderfully reliable along the Magee Marsh boarwalk this May with several being found over multiple days around marker 4 (watch that space next year), although this was another bird that led to that following wave of whips, and was located around marker 12.
