Myself and Sheikha.
How I ended up being known as Samir Kharusi:
My name is Muhammed-Samir, father's name Soud, and Family/Tribal name al-Kharusi. Tribal names were impolitic in Zanzibar, so most Arabs used their father's names, and I was known as Samir Soud throughout my school days. At university the Brits and Canadians called me Mo Kharusi, with only a handful of very close friends calling me Samir. When I started publishing scientific papers I had to use my proper formal name, Muhammed Samir Kharusi. When I started working in Oman, since it seems that much of the male population in Oman had the name Muhammed, I decided that Samir Kharusi would be less confusing. Perhaps you are now thoroughly confused :-)
