The Guitar Man: BOM II Special Preview

I noticed this young lady falling for the charms
of this talented fellow with the guitar. What is
it with musicians, and babes? After a few sweet love
songs, he literally had her in the palm of his hand.
But he gently left the scene, knowing he will live to
play another day when the pot is sweeter. The man knows
the deal, he knows the game. I admire that!

Like Kenny Rogers once said, (Sammy Modified)
"You gots ta know when to hold up, know when to fold up,
know when to walk away, and know when to run..."

But this is not about the gal, it's about the Guitar Man...

(Sammy Modified Lyrics)
"Who knows the tunes, and makes ya swoon? Baby, it's the Guitar Man!
Who knows the deal, and keeps it real? Baby it's the Guitar Man!
Who plays the tunes, then leaves so soon? Baby it's the Guitar Man!
He can make you laugh, he can make you cry...
He will...Bring you downnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
(descending notes like a slide guitar)" :-)

-Bread, "Guitar Man" 1972

Musical Note: Bread are legends of something we know today as "Soft Rock."
Soft Rock is often derided by folks who like you to think they're heavy,
and kickin' ass all the time. Certainly, the music is sweet, and sappy, but
there is something special about the music of Bread. Each song on their
"Greatest Hits" collection is bona-fide timepiece, beautifully constructed
poetry, woven by the hands of skilled, masterful musicians, and songwriters.

David Gates' sweet voice, and multi-layered vocal productions put the signature on
all of the classic Bread tunes. Take a listen to any Bread tunes from their prime,
and you will hear the very finest "soft rock" possible. Certainly, soft rock
is not hip, especially now because it's syrupy, and old, but everything old is new
again. Many young, "hip" kids like the group Five For Fighting. To me, they are nothing
more than a modern version of Bread, which is actually a very high complement.
And by the way, if you are courting a sweet young (or old) Filipina, I'll give
you one word of advice: You better start liking Soft Rock! :-)
