Before his passing in 1991, jazz legend Miles Davis
appeared on television commercials for a then start-up
radio station in NYC, CD101.9 "Smooth Jazz." CD101 is now
one of the top stations in the New York area. Always a
pioneer, it can be said that Miles helped establish
(maybe even created) this somewhat controversial, and
much derided genre in the years shortly before his passing.
On that tv commercial, Miles said in his cool-cat tone,
that CD101 was "cool, very cool...like me!"
That's what I thought of when I saw this scene.
New York City. Hip, chic, and trendy. Yeah baby,
cool...very cool.
