10/31/11: The Almighty Camera

"SX" pictured with the Nikon D3 and the
Pentax 50mm f/1.4 Super-Takumar in M42 mount.

The D3, in my opinion, is one of the greatest
digital cameras ever made in the brief, but exciting
history of digital. It is one of the few cameras I
seriously regret selling.

The Pentax 50mm f/1.4 Super-Takumar is a brilliant lens
for silly little money. It is a classic lens with excellent
sharpness and beautiful rendering and is a fine example of
Pentax's optical expertise, and under-appreciated value.

This image, more than for vanity (haha!), I think illustrates
my great love for adapting "weird" combinations of cameras and
lenses. It is something I have been doing way before the
"adapter" craze you see today, especially with the mirrorless
micro 4/3's and Sony NEX cameras.

We will touch on this topic and more in future articles on
my new blog.

Lucky guy who got it from you! I traded my Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic for $500 topwards my Mamiya 7 but still own one of the two ME Supers. (gave the other to my son) It still has the Takumar 135mm f/2.5 on it...a fine portrait lens that got lots of use.

Powerful image from the unusual combo, very fitting with the theme. BV

D3 is an awesome camera, we'll just have to wait and see if the "Canon 1D X" tops it, and then can Nikon top Canon with the D4? I'm still pretty happy with my "mini D3" (aka D700).
