The Leica S2: "Leica-fied!"

Raddy-Rad pimpin' out with the radical new
Leica S2, which appears to be larger than
Rad's head :-)

The camera has a sensor that is 56% larger than
35mm full-frame sensors, and 37.5 megapixels.

While I love the concept of this big brute of a
camera, I quietly told Rad, with all due respect,
'It won't work.'

Why? Because even though fashion and advertising guys
may love it, at the estimated $25-45K price range
(no one knows for sure yet), not many of us will
get to buy one, let alone try one.

As much as I love Leica, this is one company that
is stuck in its old ways and just doesn't get it.
For a company that just came from the brink of collapse
and bankruptcy, I don't think this is the way to
sell lots of cameras. I hope I'm wrong.

i handled it at fotokina and i couldn't even handle it well.. toooo much monster...
and the price , same.
i agree with you but i have a point, i saw the printings made with this camera,
giant prints and the details were damned amazing!

I'd be scared if somebody pointed that at me ;-) Agree with your assessment too, don't know who could afford it, printed publications are cutting budgets, internet journalists are a lot of sort of independents and freelancers...besides the fear of getting robbed.

Meanwhile, the D700 is giving you some pretty sharp shots. V

One can dream :-) Those prices put it in the Hassy league, but I'm sure it will be a great camera for those that need that sort of thing..

This S2 would be in most photog's wish lists.
Unfortunately it uses a new series of lenses instead of the old 'R' ones.
Nice shot, Sam!! V

They've designed it just for me, that's why it doesn't make sense, but yeah, that's the truth. I just went up to them and said: "Guys! I want this massive, expensive and with a sensor as big as the ozone hole". That's what they come up with and well... when I saw it... I had to be honest and said "Guys I am really sorry but, it's not cool enough for me and the sensor isn't quite as big as I wanted anyway"
So that's the story and now they're busy designing this awesome new one for me and had to market this S2 just as not to waste money you see :o)

Ana

PS: On the new one they sensor is so big that just one photo will fit in a modern day computer... just imagine how many megapixels that will be!!! Jesus! Now I need to find someone you'll be able to design this massive and super light and cool new computer.... The search never ends/

I'd have thought the fashion and advertising guys were 99% of the market for this and Leica knows it. If so, you'd have to to wonder what's the point of the smaller form as these guys work with MF/LF anyway under studio conditions, where weight/size is not a consideration. Not that I care, as I won't be getting one! :(
