View from Clingman's Dome

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The dead trees in the foreground and on the first mountain are balsam trees killed by an infestation of the balsam woolly adelgid, an accidentally imported insect. The most distant mountains, barely visible on the horizon include Mt. Pisgah, 73 miles away. You might also note the road from Clingman's to Newfound Gap, winding around the mountain in the foreground and bordered by hardwood trees in fall color.

Wonderfully shot -- the depth to the image is very impressive.
