Sep. 6: Studio Lighting Techniques

Las Vegas, NV

Today I attended a pre-conference seminar at Photoshop World sponsored by Canon. The focus was on studio lighting techniques. I learned a great deal, which was easy because I’ve never even been near a studio setup before.

One little related trick later in the evening was to convert images to black and white using the Camera Raw dialogue. See result below. (Of course you have to shoot in RAW to do it.)

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
1/125s f/13.0 at 105.0mm (35mm equivalent: 449mm) iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

I am so envious! I want to learn studio lighting. Great shots. Next time you are here we need to sit down in front of my pewter so I can pick your brain in PS.

I especially like the black and white....such a natural candid. I tried a class on studio work and found myself in way over my head and realizing I like be out of doors with the camera. Good for you, Robin. Good work.

The Black and White is my favourite. Glad you had a great time at the seminar. :-)

Very nice Robin.... the bottom shot looks like a softbox or umbrella, but I can't quite figure out the top shot -- it looks like she was illuminated with fluorescent tubes but I am sure she wasn't.
