July 25: Promises Made, Promises Kept (sorta)

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Get out your crying towel. ***Yesterday*** I promised to use each of my lenses each day starting with the EF 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS USM.

Today I kept that promise. I had dinner at the Top of the Cove in La Jolla and faithfully grabbed several shots of interest from the vantage point of our window table.

When I tried to upload the microdrive card tonight it went black on me. All shots are lost. (Herb is now thinking “I told you so”)

Ironically this 70-200 L lens is popular with many people. Herb’s f/4.0 version is his everyday walk around bird catching lens. And to think I had some great bird shots tonight. (called seagulls ;-).

Ah well. It is late. I wanted to keep my promise. I loaded my San Disk and played around with my bulb setting and grabbed this one.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. If you haven't reused the card there are a number of utilities that can recover lost images, and many photo processors will attempt to recover images--and some of them will do it for nothing. This is an interesting shot--reminds me of Ernst Haas.

Cool shot though..:>

And that's precisely why I don't own a microdrive. I do own 9 CF cards though.

You win some.
You lose some.
Some get rained-out.

I think the IS is broken.

Cool colors, and so what actually happened with the lens and the lost images?
Guest 26-Jul-2006 15:35
Now that's a really creative shot! It looks like a fat donkey (lower right hand corner) having an LSD trip at a train station. Yep, sure does.

Did you enjoy the food and the view?
Gary Blanchette26-Jul-2006 13:18
I agree with Herb! I know what both you and the EF 70-200 mm f/2.8L IS USM are capable of. I do love the tones in this image though... :-)

Sorry about the lens. This is a nice abstract image, though.

Sorry to hear that I was right, my suggestion is to start over with your lens demonstration especially as this lens is very sharp and this picture does not show it.

Wow bad news. I do like the shot tho

Well, this looks like a lovely soft wrap to watch tv in (when it is cooler of course.) Sorry about your blackout.

Sorry things went wrong. What actually went wrong. What did Herb tell you?
This turned out to be a dreamy abstract :-)
