December 27: Meeting of the Metal Monsters

Rancho Bernardo, CA

My favorite Christmas present is a metal sculpture of a grasshopper reluctantly given to me by Michele.
Here it meets and scares the h*ll out of my praying mantis.

I’ve spent much of today editing and uploading my **Christmas pictures** taken during my visit with Michele and Ed in Baja.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
1/40s f/4.0 at 24.0mm iso200 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Now this really is a nail biter. I guess we have to stay tuned to see who wins this clash of the titans. My money is on the mantis because he has the power of prayer.

Something about this picture really bugs me. What a fine photo!

The mantis being a garden good guy HAS to win !! They are cute, Robin.

LOL, great insects Robin. Who needs to go to the World Famous SD zoo when they can go to Rancho Bernardo??

I love the bugs and the glass makes them look as though they're floating.

Your house is getting scary. Cool shot

LOL Cliff. I'm afraid Nikon pictures take too long to do speedy work in PS. Just kidding. I do have several things automated ... like sizing, sharpening, levels etc. So I do my crop, check the sharpness, make the adjustment needed, and do the rest as needed.

Wow! You now can be called a connoisseur of unusual sculptues!
Great Xmas pics! - I took a ton too - most of which require some editing (the Nikon, you know ;o) ) - can I email them over and have you do them for me, you are such a PS whiz ?! :o)

I honestly had to look twice at this. This is a very...unusual christmas gift, plus on the small image it almost appears as if those bugs are sitting in your livingroom, instead of posing on your table. Great shot! Hate bugs though!

Scares the bejeezus out of me, never mind your other bug!!!

absolutly great thing my friend,
quite interesting indeed!!!
P.S. I am really at the beggining of using the Rebel my friend, have made more or less 100 photos until now but I like the results of the kit lens, I have another one that I want to try one of this days ...a 28-135mm from Sigma ... but I will wait until I will go out to some place to take some photos...next weekend probably I will use it a lot, at least I am planing to !!!!!!!!
