November 16: The 20D - Standing Tall

Rancho Bernardo, CA

So far I have been quite pleased with the new Canon 20D. It turns on in an instant, is able to focus clearly and rapidly, and it takes a ‘better’ picture using the same lenses I had for the 10D.
I can use ISO 400 without any noticeable noise, there are more optional parameters (included black and white), and it shoots at 5 f.p.s.

other sizes: small medium large original auto

My G6 says hi to the big daddy!

Ditto on David's comment!! I'm happy to say that I feel absolutely no camrea envy. And that has nothing to do with being a Nikon nut. Canon makes great cameras and lenses.

So, would you recommend this for KB2 if we decided to upgrade?
David Mingay17-Nov-2004 12:08
Have you no pride? Put that lens cap on straight! ;-)

Just for Bandito, the 30D is some 3 or 4 generations backwards, so you have to see on the used market. With some chances you find one

Oh come on Robin... ISO 800 is virtually noiseless too. It is a beautiful little machine, isn't it. And oh how it enhances that 28-135. I'm glad you like it. You do some good things with it too!

I'm jealous!!!!
Guest 17-Nov-2004 03:28
That's cool the 20d is turning out to be a great camera. I do think I'm going to skip straight up to a used 1D mark I now, but the 20d's sure are nice.

LOL at Russ, weren't we all just sweating with him, with the lens in his hands and the camera in in the Fedex depot Cleveland? Enjoying your ride here, Robin.

Well, you know I am going to have to get one!

Operators are standing by... "Oh, honey, can I have my credit card back??"
Guest 17-Nov-2004 01:49
I am sooooo wanting a new camera! I think I'll just covet yours for awhile:)))

Good camera in good hands :)
Guest 17-Nov-2004 00:47
I'd love to trade my 10D for the 20D, but I think I'm gonna skip a generation, and wait for the 30D. Or whatever they call it by then! But good for you!
Guest 17-Nov-2004 00:26
Yes, lucky you!!

I am looking for a late birtday present, maybe someone will send me one. LOL Jealousy setting in, bank account getting emptied, have to save harder.
Stu16-Nov-2004 21:45
Oh I am so sorely tempted to get one - I saw one for 1600 euros, with a kit lens.... but it's so close to Christmas... Oh I am jealous :-/

Echo to Gayle again.
Leo Charette16-Nov-2004 21:31
Dang, now you got me coveting your camera....close my eyes and say 10 times... its the photographer and not the camera, its the photo.... *sigh*
Lou Giroud16-Nov-2004 21:11
Saying that the 20D is a replacement for the 10D would be overdriven. It performs as good and even somewhat better in picture quality than the 10D, on the other side, for sure, it benefits of the most recent developements in camera technologies and therefore it is a good deal. Canon has set a milestone in picture and quality to price relation with this one. The 20D is going to be without doubt the next camera of the year and this buy, Robin, you will never regret it anyway. The 20D is to my opinion what could be bought best at this price at the moment and for sure a solid, well done camera with excellent skills.

it sure looks quite atractive indeed!!!!
regards Robin.

Just to echo Gayle's comments Robin!

I love my D70 but I must admit I really have admire the wonderful results you get with your camera. I do have a feeling, though, that you'd get great results with one of those wedding throw-away cameras!
markvm16-Nov-2004 19:57
I see you also have the 18-55mm lens. Nice companion for the 20D.
Kenneth Zimmerman16-Nov-2004 19:12
I want one, anybody got a few extra bucks laying around?
Pepe Zyman16-Nov-2004 19:10
Enjoy it!
Gary Blanchette16-Nov-2004 19:01
Lucky you! :-)
