November 8: Little Shopper

Carmel Mountain Plaza

My "catch a good shot out the car window" saga continues. This afternoon I shamelessly threw a piece of Chicken McNugget out the window to attract a few feathered friends. Many were called, but only one was chosen.

This was actually a test of the Canon EF f/3.5 – 5.6, 28-135mm IS lens on the new 20D urged on by Liza who said she now loves the lens when attached to the 20D. I cannot complain about this result. In fact I am quite pleased with the sharpness etc.

I was shooting raw (*.cr2) and this is about 1/3rd of the total frame.

Gosh... this is outstanding! You can count every feather and see all the subtle tones. Bravo!

Wow. That 20D is some camera. Great photo, Robin.

Impressive, are we going to see more Rancho Bernardo wildlife shots now?
Dominic Kite09-Nov-2004 13:04
Holy smoke - that is sharp!

Great shot, Robin, but I have to agree that it looks like that bird needs to start a diet! LOL. Glad you're having fun with the new camera. When can I stop by to pick up the 10D gathering dust on a shelf in your office?

Great details. Beautiful picture.

Ah man..! My wife is going to kill me! The need for a new 20D! Great detail...! this is out of the camera with no USM? wow...
snootydog09-Nov-2004 04:15
See what I mean Robin? I never used to get this sort of detail when the lens was on the 10D. It was a good solid lens on the 10D and now it is a star pupil for sure. I like this shot a great deal. The detail is beautiful.

That sure is sharp Robin! Yikes, at 1/3 the frame, too. I'm surely impressed. Also impressed with your resourcefulness.
Bryan Murahashi09-Nov-2004 03:51
Great, sharp pic. Very impressive.

Robin,
The detail here is just amazing. Every small feather and toe nail shows. Quite a camera and lens-and it's in the right hands.
Cindy09-Nov-2004 02:58
Wow, this is great Robin, what wonderful detail and DOF. What kind of bird is this? He sure is plump!

LOL @ your caption. A piece of Mcnugget? Good think I wasn't in the lot, you may have gotten a picture of me! LOL

You know, I HATED that 28-135 the first week I got it. Then I realized it wasn't the lens, it was me. Now I LOVE, repeat LOVE that lens. ANd as you say, Liza thinks it performs brillaintly on the 20D. That lens isn't "L" quality, but for 4 and a half, you got a great zoom range, decent optics, and IS. It's a great value.

And this fellow looks rather gorged on McDonalds! I think he should watch "Supersized."
