San Diego has a myriad of locales for mooring sailing craft of all sizes and kinds. What strikes me is how most of the boats are always at the dock. Lots of money there getting little use.

I know, we thought hard and long about getting back into sailing. You really need to have the time to spend on the water or the money is just a waste. We may do it in the future, but it will be when we can spend lots of time on the water. It is a feeling similar to flying, for me. It offers so much freedom, requires an awareness of the elements and provides a bit of excitement thrown in every now and then to keep you awake.

I can tell you first hand about boats at the dock, there just are not enough hours in the day to do all the things we want, and it is true, we need to work 40 or 50 or 60 hours a week to pay for the house, the boat, the kids activities, yes, they sit at the dock way more than we want. I pay over $2000 a summer for my slip and I've been out twice this year. It would be cheaper to just charter a boat and a captain when we want to go out to play.
