John Henry Lane

The Rev. John H. Lane , 90, of Lineville, Alabama, died Monday, April 13th at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham following a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Crutchfield Lane, who died in March 2005.

The Rev. Lane was born November 14, 1918 to Henry Walker Lane and Lena Golden Lane, Galilee Community, Jackson Co., FL.
He was a graduate of Graceville High School, Hamline University, St. Paul MN, and Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, GA.
He was a member of the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist church serving as pastor, builder, and administrator.

He was the first minister appointed to the newly organized United Methodist Church, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, where he led in the construction of the church's first facilities.
Recognizing the growth potential of the area, he organized the Shalimar United Methodist Church, Shalimar, FL, holding services in a local drive-in theater.
He subsequently served churches in Tuskegee, Foley, Mobile, Prattville and Monroeville, AL.

Administratively, he served as the first and fifth director of the Conference Assembly Grounds at Blue Lake, Andalusia , AL,
director of the Conference Program Council, director of the Conference Capital Funds Campaign, director of the Pensions Funding Campaign,
the Homes for Claimaints, and District Superintendent of the Marianna and Montgomery Districts.

He retired to Dothan in 1984 continuing to serve as a retired supply minister.
He served as associate minister of the First United Methodist Church, Panama City, minister of the Midland City, Big Creek, Highland Park,
Blountstown and Pinckard churches as well as chaplain, Wesley Manor Retirement Home, Dothan.
