Scientific Name: Papilio demoleus
Common Name: Citrus Swallowtail (aka - Lime Swallowtail; Lemon Swallowtail; Chequered Swallowtail)
-—› A very colorful member of the swallowtail family with its wingspan of 80-100 mm (3 to 4 inches), but there is no tail on the
hind wings of these swallowtails. The upper fore wings are largely black and outer wing margins have a series of irregular
yellow spots in a discal band. There are two yellow spots at the upper end of the cell and several scattered yellow spots in
the apical region. Upper hind wings have a red tornal spot and the discal black band is not interrupted with yellow spots but
is dusted with yellow scales. The wings under sides are paler yellow with the black areas more heavily dusted with yellow.
-—› It can be seen on wing in any month but is more abundant after monsoons. Six subspecies have been described from the world.
