Ghosts. Lest we forget

I feel sad that the World stood by and let Indonesia anex West Papua at the end of WW2. The West Papuans are Melanesian and are a totaly different race to those of Indonesia. The repression of these people by their Indoesian governors has been well documented and Australia's lack of support for our neighbours is very sad.
In making this cartoon I have used a photograph I took of the memorial and one of people on the beach. Apologies to anyone who thinks they may be in this photo. I tried to make it as anonymous as possible and it certainly wasn't meant to be critical of relaxing on the beach. I just wanted to draw attention to the freedom we enjoy and the plight of those who aided our soldiers in the fight against the Japanese in WW2.
The memorial in Anzac Square is a sculpture by Artbusters, "unveiled on 29 August 1992. It's title is South West Pacific Campaign 1942 - 1945. The wording on the plaque is "This memorial depicts a wounded Australian soldier descending the Kokoda Trail assisted by a strong dependable Papua New Guinean leading him to safety. ""
