My Tap Roots

Many trees and plants start life with a taproot. A taproot is generally a deep anchoring root that provides vital nourishment to the plant. Taproots can often extend as far underground as the tree is tall. I call this gallery Tap Roots because my relationship with those pictured here runs nearly as deep as I am old.

We first met in a New York City elementary school more than fifty years ago. FIFTY YEARS AGO! We all went through junior and senior high school together before taking different roads in life. This reunion has been a miracle of traveling back in time; back to where our parents came from. All of our parents came from the south. They each moved to New York in search of a better life. We visited South Carolina, to get a glimpse of our heritage. While in Charleston we rediscovered a mighty kinship between us, that is still strong, although we have not seen each other for many decades.

This picture was after we spent the day touring Charleston. You see us preparing to order a meal of Gullah Cuisine in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. It is marvelously refreshing to be around such long time good friends. Our intention is to do this again, every year.
