The Final Chapter of The Wall

Each pipe was driven into the earth until what Jack called refusal. Refusal is the point at which the pile lodged in solid earth and could be driven no further.

I mentioned in a earlier journal posting that I contracted with an engineer to underpinned the southwest corner of my house in three locations. Jack fabricated galvanized steel pipe "pin piles".

Then heavy steel support brackets were welded to the top of each pin pile. The corner of the building was jacked-up. I tested the smooth operation of the windows and doors as Jack and Ken lifted the structure. After the lifting the piles were filled with concrete reinforced with a steel bar. Jack and Ken back-fileed the holes and restored the landscaping. I then grouted what remained of the crack between the wall block and painted the wall. After nearly three months of research and only two and a half days of work the project was completed.
