Rockhouse Creek, New Symrna Beach, FL

This is the last post from aboard Shibumi for THIS trip. We should be home tomorrow evening.

This is the bitter-sweet portion of the trip. It is bitter because we will miss the day to day excitement of living aboard ship... visiting far away places... meeting new friends... living independent from the grid... and living in harmony with the often unpredictable elements. It is sweet because... well frankly I am looking forward to being a world class couch potato again; who can surf the web without worry of draining precious battery power. Jill says she misses a daily routine that permits her to get in her car and have a longer range than afforded by dinghy. We both look forward to showers with seemingly unlimited hot water... and we look forward to being around family and old friends.

As I have mentioned many times, I don't like traveling the waterways on the weekends. Many weekend boaters seem to lack the courtesy and safety savy that cruisers and others who spend a lot of time on the water have come to expect of other mariners. However, we are so close to home I decided to travel Saturday and Sunday to reach home before heavy weather, that is predicted midweek, sets in.

We left Cocoa Florida at sunrise this morning and arrived at Rockhouse Creek in early afternoon.

The recreational boaters were out in force but we were safely anchored in the creek before very many of them started opening their six-packs of beer.
Not long after we arrived at Rockhouse Creek, the Ice Cream Boat came by... I had to stop him to get an ice cream sandwich and Jill got something called a "Rocky Road". AN ICE CREAM BOAT! I guess I have been missing something by not traveling the waterways on the weekend.
I cooked a couple of chops on the grill for our final evening meal for this journey. Jill made peas and we capped it off with apple sauce... and did I mention that the ice cream boat came by with dessert?
Tomorrow we will travel that last seven or eight hours (depending on the wind and tide) of the trip. My next entry SHOULD be from land.

An ice cream boat! Wow! Bet he does great business from all the weekend boaters. I'm praying for safe travels home....that you arrive safely and will be so happy to see you posting more often. Beautiful shots and love your life. To be able to travel like this every year is something I'd love to do. Got a taste of it in the last year and now I'm back to work. But, it was worth it, every mile of it. Welcome home and enjoyed the ride from here!
