An overnight fog reminded me of a passage from a book I recently read:
"During the night a white tide had swallowed the earth. At sunrise the near corner of 'my neighbor's pool enclosure' shouldered through the fog, but the 'house and most of his trees' had disappeared. The 'canal' ran from nowhere to nowhere. The limbs of the dying oak hung like shadows overhead. In the sky, the sun was reduced to a minuscule gray disc."
