Hayden Pack Alpha Female

Chantal and I were up before dawn to drive down to Hayden Valley, one of the premier wildlife viewing areas of Yellowstone, when this white female wolf crossed the road in front of us.
We stopped to give her room and she came back to the car and turned just beside my side of the car where I was able to get this shot.
It turns out that she was the famous and well seen and loved alpha female of the Hayden wolf pack.
Sadly, we learned the following year that she was killed by a neighboring pack.
Wolves lead an incredibly difficult life and it is such a shame that they are so maligned by so many humans.

Gorgeous, gorgeous animal. It is a privilege to see these wild canids. You have a lovely shot to remember her by. V

As told to me by Ann:
Did you notice my photo of the white wolf? She crossed in front of us on the way to Hayden in the dark and stopped right next to my
side of the car. I nearly cried, I was so taken by her.
Unfortunately, the next year we were there we found out she had been killed by another wolf pack. She was the alpha female of the Hayden pack for several years and was well known because of her white color and because of her propensity to travel next to the road. Those wolves have a tough life.
