Snow Geese
Anser caeulescens
Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in Lancaster and Lebanon Counties in Pennsylvania is known for the extraordinary snow goose migration in late winter. On this day there were an estimated 45,000 snow geese on the refuge.
I came across the flock feeding in a corn field.
Several times the geese got spooked and practically as one organism would lift off, circle a few times and land back onto the field.
Once an immature bald eagle flew close and another time the shadow of a small plane swept across the field causing them to panic.
The sound and sight of thousands of geese is something to behold!
