Ophrys hygrophila means something like waterloving Ophrys. Besides some photos, a wet pair of muddy shoes and soggy knees indeed what you bring back to the car after photographing this cute little species in its wet meadow habitat.
It has a very limited distribution and only grows between the towns Akseki and Beysehir in the Taurus mountains. However where it occurs it can be extremely abundant often growing in large colonies.
Recent genetic research has shown that this species is nothing more than an ordinary Ophrys scolopax. However when seeing both species they are not much alike at all. So therefore I chose to stick to the name Ophrys hygrophila.
