La Réunion Island

From all the Mascararene islands (Rodriques, Mauritius, La Réunion and a few tiny islands)the French island of La Réunion is the largest and has the highest mountains.
For this reason La Réunion has the most diverse flora of the Mascarenes. Many species that grow on the island either grow nowhere else on the planet (endemic to La Réunion) or only occur on the Mascarene islands (endemic to the Mascarene islands)

You can view the photo's in two ways. First way is in an album where all photos are sorted on the area where they where made. The second way is in an album where the plants and animals are sorted of relationship. There are no scenery photo's in this second album.

All pictures have been taken in the wild unless stated otherwhise. The botanical garden in which a few of these pictures have been made is the Conservatoire Botanique National de Mascarin (CBNM)

The people of the CBNM have been very helpfull for me when I searched for location data and correct names. So I owe a great deal to them.

I am also very thankfull to Mr. Michel Szelengowicz, Maurice Tamon, Patrice Metro and Patrice Bernet. The last recently published a very well presented and colourfull book about the orchids of La Reunion called "Orchidees de la Reunion" ISBN 978-2-7466-2705-5.
The first two persons are currently working on a book of which I will keep you updated right here.
