Translated Rio Negro means River Black...the water is actually the colour of coca-cola. Hardly attractive aesthetically for swimming but it is harmless and due to the amount of tanin in the water...the only good thing about it is that mosquito larva cannot survive so it is one of the few places in the Amazon where there are few (none) mosquitos
