XD5 meets XD7

Waalwijk, the Netherlands

In their days very expensive and the XD7, indeed one of the best SLR's ever made, retains decent value and respect amongst enthusiasts. The XD5 not so. Both are very capable camera's though. The early-XD5 (white'125') is equipped with the Rokkor MD II 50mm f/1.7, with 55mm filter thread. The Winder D adds to the pleasure of using this camera. Not to shoot 3 frames per second, but because it comes in handy as a grip during shooting.

The XD5 never became a real success. Minolta offered competition in form of the XG9 and, from 1981 onwards, the new XG-M. In some markets, XD5's were dumped for a low price and, despite being offered after 1981, the model never received the post-1981 logo of the rising sun.

The late-XD7 pictured here shows the new Minolta logo (old one is most likely underneath) and the 50mm f/1.7 MD III with 49mm filter thread, which was introduced in 1981 to support the X-700 and its MPS. The late XD's were fitted with the lens as well. The Winder D also provides additional grip. The XD7 (XD11, XD) was on the price lists until 1984, when it was discontinued. It was Minolta's true flagship and more expensive than the X-700.
