When 32PLRT at Sochaczew was disbanded in 1995, a dozen MiG-21R's were stripped of their reconaissance equipment and transferred to 3PLM at Poznan-Krzesiny, due to a shortage of MiG-21MF's over there. The stripped R's were not really as capable as the MF's, being based upon the older MiG-21M with a less powerful R-11 engine and lesser avionics. By 2000, the last MiG-21R's were retired at Poznan and parked all over the airbase. All but one have been scrapped in the same year. MiG-21R 1085 was one of them, pictured here somewhat neglected in front of the maintenance hangar. The missing ejection seat indicates its flying days are over.
