Blackburn Buccaneer XN981 had a long and fascinating career with both the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. As the 48th Bucc produced, it went to the RN in February 1965. Between 1965 and 1978 is served with various naval units (with only a brief interval in 1971-72, when it was needed by the RAF at Honington) from RNAS Lossiemouth. During these years, XN981 also flew from HMS Eagle and Ark Royal. In 1986 the Bucc went to the RAF (12 sqdn at Lossiemouth), after an upgrade at BAe Woodford. 12 sqdn and 208 sqdn would be the only RAF units it flew with, until March 1994, when this oldie unfortunately was scrapped
