Two women surfers waiting in late afternoon to head out for the first round women's eliminations at the O'Neill Cold Water Classic surf contest in Santa Cruz. Even drawing professional surfers from all over the world leaves it painfully obvious that we are at the mercy of the ocean to provide waves. The event was moved temporarily from famous Steamer Lane (where the sea was basically flat) to Waddell creek, 14 miles away (where it was only a little better). Hopefully, tomorrow we'll see a larger swell so these professionals can show their stuff.
