Before 1980, most greyhounds were euthanized after their racing careers had ended. People didn’t consider them as pets thinking they were overly active and needing loads of room to run. Thanks to over 150 independent adoption groups across the country educating the public about the breed and their suitability as pets, the retired racer, better known as a 40 mph couch potato, is gaining in popularity as a loving, gentle companion animal.
