That bluejay is exquisite and the composition is well balanced.
Have you ever tried remote flash around the birds ?

Thanks for your nice note. I processed the pics one at a time instead of using my typical actions. The levels adjustments were more critical so I wouldn't lose detail on the birds. Pretty standard workflow. I think the white snow gives it the look you are describing. I thought of adding fill flash as I was shooting but I never got back to my gear... too lazy! I will probably try fill flash with the 400/5.6 next time to see the effect. I used to use it with the 100-400 at times. Thanks :) I was so excited to finally get the bluejay and cardinal shots. I moved my bird feeder into a tree so maybe they felt more protected.

Roberta, this shot and some of the others in this group remind me of J J Audubon's bird prints (from watercolors, right?). Almost unreal/stylized appearance. Did you do any particular processing to accomplish that look or was it just the stark white of the snow and the lighting? Beautiful work.
