Scientific name: Necrosyrtes monachus (Temminck 1823).
Necrosyrtes monachus, literally means "a monk-like (bird) that drags away the dead". This species is found South of the Sahara in Uganda, Kenya, & Tanzania. It inhabits plains, savannas,
forested areas, and coastal areas.
Vultures are generally classified as birds of prey along with hawks, owls, and eagles. In 1994, due to recent DNA analysis and other studies on anatomy, physiology, behavior, and cellular
biology, vultures have been reclassified and placed in the stork family.
