Dating back to 1827 when an Indian clerk, who journeyed on the same ship as Sir Stamford Raffles, erected a small hut on the site. The temple as it is now
was completed around 1847 and is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore and now a national monument. Very popular with the island's Hindus,
the Sri Mariamman Temple is always buzzing with activity - especially weddings.
