These pix are from a long weekend in Reykjavik in early March.

The prime purpose was to see the aurora borealis or northern lights, which I did.

However, they are not generally as spectacular as tv/videos and magazines lead you to think.
Obviously, only exceptional aurora are worth publishing!
The most common form is just a static white arc/band rising up from the horizon.
When photographed, this band can appear (as in my case) green, because digi cameras have
twice as many green sensors as either blue or red.

My aurora shots were taken using multispot focusing (single spot didn't work!) and had about 4seconds exposure on 400iso.

I also visited the Gullfoss waterfall, the Geisir fields, Thingvellir and continental divide...
although the weather was really awful for all of these: very overcast with cold, high winds.

The following two days were much warmer and sunnier. I visited the Blue Lagoon,
saw the aurora and walked around Reykjavik.
