Overhead Console Trip Computer

The Console is Original Equipment, but I added the Electronic Trip Computer, (FOR A 2002 Dakota) Part Number 56049050AE (list Price $265). No wiring harness exists in the roof area if the vehicle did not come with a trip computer. I purchased a harness (Part Number 4760108-AH List WAS $44.70 when I purchased. I have since found that the price jumped over 10 fold to over $500) from my local Dodge Parts Guy. I had my son (a Auto Electrical Tech by trade) wire in the harness.

I first tried a Trip Computer from a 99 Chrysler 300M. The only thing I could ever get to work was the Homelink and the compass. You MUST have a Overhead Trip Computer from the same year/make/model vehicle. If the Overhead Trip Computer is from a different year/make/model vehicle the Trip Computer doesn't/can't talk to the ECU.

I'd like to know what needs to happen to get the lights behind the button labels to light up. Mine don't light!

@Ed: Old, but there's a screw in the front, and then you pull the entire console straight down.

I used your posted wiring diagram to install an OTIS in my 2003 dakota. Thank you for posting the diagram, all wire colors matched. I wired it into the back of the fuse box.

So do you mean that for a 2004 dakota with a 3.7 V6, i must have the exact part number that goes with that specific model ? I bid on a older console from that the guy posted it as "fits 97 through 03 models" I guess it will fit but the computer readings for the MPG may not be in accordance with that engine since those years they had 5.2, 5.9, and later the 4.7 but the 3.7 came out from 2004 -on.

The harness 4760108-AH lists for over $500 now at the local dealer and online. there must be a source of an aftermarket plug that will fit these things

Does any one have the wiring connector pin signal names so a home made harness can be made?

hi ralph, good job on doing it, im in the same boat. i just purchased a trip comp from the dealer Part# 5604578ab. looks the same as yours why a diff in numbers. anyways the harness that you got was it long to go all the way near the fuse box. and where are the connections made. can you get the info off anywhere. thanks in advance

hey, i just got that console for my 01 durango, I had 2 little lights before, but im trying to get the new one put up right, the wiring harness is different and i could go back to the junkyard and get the right one but before i do i wanted to know how hard it is to run the new wires. do they plug right in somewhere? hard to run under the headliner/ A piller? any other snags you ran into when doing this? thanks for your time. -Andrew
