Bill Griffin (center) was in London visiting his family during his service in the British Merchant Navy when this picture was taken. While at sea he was away for six months at a time, so each visit was a joyous family reunion. He served six years of hazardous convoy duty until he was mustered out in late 1944. Looking at this scene of young adults enjoying an outing at the popular outdoor swimming pool in Finchley, it is difficult to imagine the terrible stress they are living through in wartime London.
