This is the White House on Albany Rd, London. It was opened in 1936 with "service flats", offering housekeeping much like a hotel. Amenities included a restaurant and swimming pool. It survived the war and is now a four-star hotel under the name Melia White House. Alethea's address on her marriage certificate was given as "848 The White House," which presumably put her on the top (eighth) floor.
