Wood Duck - (Aix sponsa) - Canard branchu

This very attractive duck is the only North American member of genus Aix. The other species of this genus is the very attractive Asian Mardarin Duck (Aix galericulata). These were once thought to belong to a Subfamily ("Cairininae") of "perching ducks". Modern Molecular Biology has shown this to be incorrect.
