Second Chemainus Sawmill

Chemainus Murals

“Second Chemainus Sawmill” by artist Bruce Rickett painted in 1988.
Restored in 2004 by Cim MacDonald.

This sawmill was the second to be built on the same site in 1879, it was
converted to steam power in 1883.

The mural is based on a photograph in 1886 and is so artistically reproduced
in paint. The mill operated continuously at this site for over 100 years before shutting down in 1983.

On the far right, Marian is seen walking down the sidewalk and always
hurrying the photographer to catch up.

That is a really nice one! I like how you have included the front of the building too. Yes Marian is way ahead of you on the yellow trail. V

An engaging historical mural and I really like how you composed this. You do have some catching up to do and I know how that goes.

A lot of ground covered in this mural. So cool that the town's history is recorded - and nice that you've told us the story :) V

the tale of timber in that mural, from fallers through milling and right to framing up a shed...excellent capture, with the view to the right wisely included..
