“Homecoming” by artist Kathy Ager
Kathy’s work is heavily influenced by the Dutch and Portuguese masters.
Her still life works are a technical marvel as the textures, shadowing, and
detail of each object are front and centre. Within her work, Kathy blends
pop culture and symbolism with classical stylings. Look closely in the
piece to see a Vancouver Grizzly’s basketball jacket (reflecting homecoming),
a Mac de Marco record, a compass, and tattoo work on the bust. The red
illustration on the top is meant to reflect the emotional landscape of the piece.
Artist Statement: “This piece is about returning home to Vancouver after living away for many years,
It’s the history that connects me to this city and country, the memory of what was and what is, and
the dream of life in foreign lands where my own history isn’t so sharp but still follows me.”
