Photos from Istalif, a village 1 hour north of Kabul just off the Shomali Plain. Istalif used to be a famous summer retreat and place to buy glazed pottery. The pottery shops are still there, but the village is rather forelorn (thanks to all the destruction it had to endure). The setting over the plain is beautiful, though.
