In the afternoon, we all boarded a bus and left Segovia. It was still too early for us to meet our
new host families in Madrid so we went to La Graja to visit San Ildefonso. Near the palace
there are rows of matching apartment buildings. They originally housed the workers who cared
for the palace and gardens. As we approached the village one of the girls in our group pointed
out which room had been her’s during the home stay. She had lived in La Granja in one of the
apartments that had once been for the palace staff.
The photo shows a large fountain at San Ildefonso. The gardens are so large that even though
this was my second visit I did not see any of the same sites again except for the entrance.
