Abu Simbel


Abu Simbel was carved out of the rock on the orders of Ramses II in the 1200 BC in order to commemorate his victory in the Battle of Kadesh with the Hittites.

Due to the rising waters of Lake Nasser, it was relocated by multi-national efforts in 1968. The success of this collaboration led to the concept behind UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.
