Ontanagon MI

The first of the lights we visited situated on Lake Superior, this light located at the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula on Michigan's UP is in the very early stages of restoration. Established in 1866 and located on private property, the light was deactivated in 1964. You have to go to the County Historical Society to arrange to visit the light. They currently take you there on a small bus by special arrnagement with the property owners and provide a guided tour complete with ghost stories. Our tour guide was the president of the Historical Society, who was very friendly and informative. The architecture is Square/Integral Brick, similar to the lights at Escanaba and Peninsula Point as well as several others we visited.
