This unusually marked Turnstone has shown up on Duxbury Beach during 4 of the last 5 spring migrations. This gallery contains a few photos from 2013. "Luke" (for leucistic), as he was nicknamed by Jim and Allie Loehlin of Duxbury who first found him and thus had naming rights, first was recorded in 2013 at mid tide on May 17 on Crescent Beach (connects Gurnet and Saquish). He had not been recorded out there in previous years, and within 2 days he showed up in the High Pines area- part of his previous territory. From then on he was found only in the stretch from just north of the first crossover down to the marsh areas at High Pines.

Though at times he consorted with small flocks of Turntones (mostly), Luke often was by himself or with one or another single turnstone - though not the same one. I have been out on the 29th, 31st and 6/1 and not seen him and so assume he moved out with the many shorebirds birds that left on the fronts that have been passing through (many still remain at 6/1 but he doesn't appear to be among them). Hoping he'll return in 2014!
