I first found this bird on 8/9 feeding with a young juvenile (see poor photo that follows the first two), and today found only the adult which was feeding on the exposed flat immediately west of the Bluefish River bridge/culvert. This photo was taken from the tiny park looking down on the flat. I saw it catch and swallow two good sized crabs (see next photo) before it flew up into the trees on the south bank of the river about 40 feet up. The foliage blocked any view; perhaps the youngster was hidden up there as well.
