I was observing a flock of what appeared to be about 100 birds in the marsh grass near the tip of the peninsula at High Pines when a small boat approached the peninsula and the flock exploded upward revealing the group to be closer to 300 birds. The huge majority were Short-billed Dowitchers with the balance being mostly Greater Yellowlegs and a handful of Willets. The flock seemed unconcerned about my being there - even though I stuck out like a sore thumb - and a group of about 100 Dowitchers flew low over the grass and water right at me. About 50 feet away they split going around me on both sides and reuniting behind me like a stream around a boulder. This is a detail of a shot taken as they zipped by me.
