This bird was bobbing about 50 feet offshore on the ocean side of Duxbury Beach just north of the 2nd crossover opposite the south end of the shorebird "loafing area".

I puzzle over the age/molt about this individual because the coverts would indicate an adult bird while the head markings, I believe relate to a younger bird. Also the amount of white showing in the primaries seems atypical.
